Import Palm Leaf Plates into Australia: Container Guide
To import palm leaf plates into Australia from India, you buy by the container, FOB New Mangalore Port, and your freight forwarder ships it to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Fremantle. Sea transit takes 21 to 45 days depending on routing. Since 1 January 2026 there is no Australian import duty on goods of Indian origin under the India–Australia trade agreement (ECTA), but 10% GST is payable at the border. Every container has to clear Australian biosecurity, so it travels with fumigation certificates, a phytosanitary certificate and three exporter declarations.
How an Import from India Works, Step by Step
- Agree the order. Choose sizes and shapes, Ecodyne branding or your own label, and the container size. The minimum is one 20ft container for Ecodyne-branded goods or one 40ft high-cube for white label, with at least 200 cartons per product category.
- Pay the deposit. Terms are 70% deposit and 30% against documents, by bank transfer. A letter of credit is accepted for orders above USD 50,000.
- Production and biosecurity treatment. The goods are fumigated before packing, the container is washed, fumigated empty and dried, then loaded. The loaded container is sealed and fumigated again at the port. Loading runs on Ecodyne's 10-day container loading term.
- Hand over at New Mangalore Port. The price is FOB New Mangalore Port. From there your freight forwarder books the sea freight and insurance.
- Documents to your broker. You receive the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, three fumigation certificates (originals), the phytosanitary certificate and the packing, manufacturing process and storage declarations.
- Clearance and delivery in Australia. Your customs broker lodges the import declaration, pays GST and arranges biosecurity clearance. Containers are floor-loaded to the roof with no pallets, so plan for a manual unload at your warehouse.
