What sizes do palm leaf plates come in?

What are the exact measurements of each plate size?

Below is our plate list as it appears on the spec sheet. The first column is the name the trade uses. The second is what the plate actually measures across. The depth depends on the line: Classic plates are 2.0 cm deep, Standard plates 2.5 to 3.0 cm.

Look at the 9 and 10 inch rounds. On paper they sound an inch apart. In the hand they are 24 cm and 25 cm. If your customers know plates by centimetre, sell them by centimetre. Carton weights and sizes for every line are on the palm leaf plates product page.

Is there an industry standard for palm leaf plate sizes?

No. I know of no ISO or EN standard that fixes the diameter of a palm leaf plate, and Indian makers label their sizes loosely. One supplier’s 10 inch can be another’s 9.5 inch.

So the sizing standard you work to is the supplier’s spec sheet. Ask for the measured size in centimetres, the rim height, pieces per carton and carton volume for every item. If a supplier can only give you inch names, ask for a sample and measure it yourself before you sign anything.

There is a second reason for care. Each plate is pressed from one fallen leaf, so every size is nominal. The mould fixes the shape. The leaf decides the grain and colour, and edges can vary slightly from piece to piece.

Which plate size should I order for mains, starters and desserts?

Start from the food, then pick the size. This is how our buyers usually match them:

For a first container, most importers take one dinner size as the bulk of the load and add two or three smaller sizes. The 10 inch round is the usual choice for that dinner size.

Does the rim line change which size I should order?

It changes how the plate is used, more than its size. Every size comes in one or both of two lines. Classic has a flat profile and a 3 mm rim, for dry food. Standard has a 5 mm rim and holds curry, pasta and dressed salad.

Neither line is a better grade. Standard plates weigh a little more and stack a little looser, which matters when you count cartons. A 6 inch round weighs 8 to 12 g in Classic and 12 to 16 g in Standard. The full comparison is in Classic vs Standard palm leaf plates.

How many plates fit in a carton and in a container?

Every plate size packs 100 pieces to an outer carton: four packs of 25, each shrink-wrapped in 19-micron polyolefin film. We can pack up to 200 to a carton on request. Above that a carton passes 18 kg and is hard to lift by hand.

A 40ft high cube has 67 to 68 CBM of usable space and takes 300,000 to 350,000 pieces in a normal mix. Small rounds push you to the top of that range. Big squares, platters and compartment plates bring it down. Use the container calculator to test your own size mix.

What is the price of a 10 inch areca plate?

We do not publish a price for each size. Round plates sit in a band of USD 0.032 to 0.117 per piece, FOB New Mangalore, from our Economy grade up to Premium. Square plates run USD 0.036 to 0.100 and rectangles USD 0.034 to 0.078.

Where a 10 inch plate lands in that band depends on the grade, the rim line, the packing and the size mix of the whole container. Send us the mix and we quote it as one container.

What is the minimum order per size?

The minimum order is one 20ft container for the Ecodyne Tableware brand, or one 40ft high cube for white label. Inside that container you can mix sizes and shapes freely, as long as each product category reaches 200 cartons.

That rule lets a first order test four or five sizes without buying a full container of each. We load within 10 days of the confirmed order and pay a 1% penalty for every day we are late.
