Who manufactures areca leaf plates in India?
Many pressing units across the areca-growing states make them, most of them small, and most of them in Karnataka, which has about two thirds of India’s areca area. Far fewer can export by the container. Ecodyne Tableware (Conservia Partners) in Karnataka is India’s largest manufacturer and exporter of areca leaf tableware.

Where in India are areca leaf plates made?
Close to the palms. The raw material is the leaf sheath that an areca palm drops several times a year, and it is bulky and light, so presses sit near the plantations rather than near the ports.
That puts most production in Karnataka. Government figures for 2020-21 show Karnataka with 500,000 hectares under areca out of 730,823 across India, far ahead of any other state. Smaller clusters exist in other areca districts, but if you are buying by the container you will mostly be talking to Karnataka.

Which areca leaf plate manufacturers sell direct to importers?
The ones set up to export. Plenty of units press good plates for the Indian market but have never prepared a bill of lading or a phytosanitary certificate, and they sell through traders when an overseas order comes along.
A manufacturer that sells direct will quote you FOB from an Indian port, invoice you in its own name, and issue the export documents itself. How should you compare palm leaf plate manufacturers?
Do not compare brochures. Ask every manufacturer on your shortlist for the same evidence and put the answers side by side.

Is a large manufacturer always the better choice?
No. A small unit can press excellent plates, and for a local caterer that may be all that matters. Size starts to matter when you import. A container of 300,000 or more pieces has to be pressed, dried, inspected and packed to the same standard, and then loaded on a fixed date, and that needs volume behind it.
It matters even more for a repeat programme. If you sell to a supermarket or a catering chain, your supplier has to load the same mix every month, including the months when fresh leaf is scarce. Ask any manufacturer how it did that last year.
Who is the largest palm leaf plate manufacturer in India?
Ecodyne Tableware, the export brand of Conservia Partners, is India’s largest manufacturer and exporter of areca leaf tableware. It was founded in 2009, began exporting in 2010 and now ships to 19 countries.
Production capacity is about 4.5 million pieces a month. We are ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified by TÜV India and amfori BSCI audited. Questions buyers ask
Are palm leaf plates and areca leaf plates the same thing?
Yes. Both names describe plates pressed from the fallen leaf sheath of the areca palm. Suppliers use the two names interchangeably, so search for both when you build a shortlist.
Why are most palm leaf plate makers in southern India?
Because that is where the areca palms are. Karnataka alone had about two thirds of India’s areca area in 2020-21, and the sheaths are too bulky to move far before pressing.
What minimum order do Indian manufacturers ask for?
Export manufacturers usually sell by the container. Ours is one 20ft container for the Ecodyne Tableware brand or one 40ft high cube for white label, with mixed sizes allowed and at least 200 cartons per product category.
How do I check a manufacturer’s certificates?
Ask for the documents, not a logo. Check that they name the company you are paying, then confirm them with the issuing body. ISO certificates from accredited bodies can be looked up in the IAF CertSearch database.
Do Indian palm leaf manufacturers make cups?
Some may. We do not. Our range is plates, bowls, platters, trays and compartment plates, all pressed from the leaf with heat and pressure and no glue, coating or chemicals.
