EN 13432 certification is in progress for Ecodyne’s palm leaf plates. Our products are naturally biodegradable and compost within 90 to 120 days in industrial composting conditions. Areca palm leaf tableware meets the four EN 13432 criteria — biodegradation, disintegration, ecotoxicity and heavy metal limits — inherently, because they are made from 100% natural fallen palm leaf sheaths with no chemicals, coatings or synthetic additives. Formal certification is expected in 2026 and will apply to all Ecodyne product lines.

LFGB is Germany’s food safety law governing materials that come into contact with food. Section 30 tests overall food safety and Section 31 tests specific migration of harmful substances. Without LFGB certification, food contact products cannot legally be sold in Germany. Ecodyne holds LFGB §30 and §31 certification and has been exporting LFGB-certified palm leaf plates to German wholesale importers since 2010 — making it one of the longest-standing certified suppliers in the sector.

EU importers of palm leaf plates need EU Regulation 1935/2004 compliance (food contact materials), BSCI or equivalent social compliance documentation, and increasingly EN 13432 if products are marketed as compostable. For Germany specifically, LFGB §30 and §31 are mandatory. Ecodyne holds all of these except EN 13432, which is currently in progress. BSCI certification covers labour standards, fair wages, working conditions and supply chain ethics. It is audited by a neutral third party and is required by many European retailers before onboarding a new supplier. Ecodyne’s BSCI audit verifies ethical practices across 262 direct employees and 900 micro-entrepreneurs, including 810 farming families who collect naturally fallen areca palm leaves across 2,000 hectares in Karnataka. The audit confirms no child labour, no forced labour and safe working conditions throughout the supply chain.

Ecodyne holds USDA BioPreferred certification, confirming 100% plant-based origin. This is distinct from USDA Organic, which applies to food products. BioPreferred is the correct programme for bio-based non-food items such as palm leaf tableware. Ecodyne also holds FDA food contact compliance and ASTM D6400 + D6868 certifications for the US market. Over 50 million units have been shipped to USDA-regulated markets since 2010.
